The maintenance and care of electric forklift batteries directly impact their service life, operational stability, and work efficiency. Since forklifts are frequently deployed in high-usage, heavy-load environments, inadequate battery maintenance can easily lead to capacity degradation, reduced operating range, or even outright system failure.
In daily operations, charge management constitutes the most critical aspect of maintenance. One should strive to avoid fully discharging the battery before recharging; adopting a "shallow charge, shallow discharge" usage pattern is more conducive to extending its service life. Furthermore, it is imperative to use a compatible charger and to avoid mixing chargers or utilizing unstable power sources. During the charging process, adequate ventilation must be maintained to prevent the battery from overheating; additionally, prolonged overcharging and unsupervised charging should be strictly avoided.
During actual operation, care must also be taken to avoid prolonged periods of overloading. Frequent high-current discharge accelerates battery aging; therefore, work schedules should be reasonably organized to ensure that the equipment receives timely rest following periods of continuous, high-intensity use. For lead-acid batteries, it is also necessary to periodically inspect the electrolyte levels and replenish with purified water as needed, whereas for lithium-ion batteries, the primary focus should be on ensuring the proper functioning of the Battery Management System (BMS).
Regarding storage and long-term inactivity, if a forklift is to remain unused for an extended period, the battery charge level should be maintained within an appropriate range (typically 50% to 70%). Periodic recharging is also necessary to prevent deep discharge. The storage environment should be kept free from high temperatures, excessive humidity, and direct sunlight. Additionally, the battery terminals should be inspected periodically for looseness or corrosion; any anomalies discovered must be addressed immediately. By adhering to these standardized maintenance practices, the service life of electric forklift batteries can be significantly extended, while overall operational safety is enhanced.
